estate objectives

Our long-term approach to managing land, nature and the environment.

The sustainable long-term management of all Estate assets is central to our purpose, ensuring they benefit both present and future generations. This includes the sensitive environmental management of all land to protect and enhance the unique habitats within the Estate boundaries, as well as the maintenance and preservation of architecturally important buildings across all parts of Ben Alder Estate. We are committed to providing a secure and safe working environment for all staff and to actively participate and supporting the local community whenever appropriate. Finally, we strive for excellence in the provision of all services to visitors to the Estate.

Forestry

At Ben Alder, we manage approximately 2,000 hectares of commercial plantations alongside native broadleaf and Scots Pine woodlands. This includes dedicated native woodland regeneration schemes and a 500-hectare conversion programme, through which commercial conifer plantations are being restored to native broadleaf and Scots Pine for long-term retention and ecological benefit.

CONSERVATION

At Ben Alder, we actively engage in peatland restoration, habitat and wildlife monitoring, and a range of other conservation initiatives, working closely with partner organisations to protect and enhance the Estate’s natural environment.

Deer Management & Stalking

At Ben Alder, we are committed to maintaining a careful balance between our sporting interests, the environmentally designated areas of the Estate and the needs and interests of our neighbours.

Moorland management & Grouse shooting

At Ben Alder, we aim to maximise the potential of our exceptional high-altitude grouse moor, while ensuring the highest standards of regulatory and legal compliance are upheld at all times.

Bee hives

We host over 60 hives around the estate producing fabulous heather honey.
